Head of Department – Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma is the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering (DoCE) at Takshshila Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jabalpur. He is a distinguished academician with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, an M.E. (Hons) in Structural Engineering, and an MBA in Project Management. Additionally, he holds degrees in Journalism and Classical Music, reflecting his multidisciplinary expertise.
With over 20 years of teaching, research, and industry experience, Dr. Verma has made significant contributions in the fields of structural design, construction management, and sustainable engineering. Plantation on Republic Day:

Department of Civil Engineering, Takshshila Institute of Engineering and Technology Jabalpur organized a plantation program on 25 January 2024. Dr. Sanjay Verma explained the interaction of soil and water with plants. Er. Sanjiv Verma ‘Salil’ Chairman IGS Jabalpur Chapter explained importance of plants in nature. Faculties of the Civil department Prof. Rajkumar Vishwakarma, Prof. Akash Jain, Prof. Deepesh Lodhi, Prof. Shivam Tiwari, Prof. Satyam Tiwari, Prof. Abhishek Pastel, Mr. Dharmendra, Mr.Murlidhar Kori and about 30 students participated in the plantation program and planted 30 different plants in the college campus.
A One-day training program for Civil Engineering Students TIET conducted by Geological Survey of India:

A one-day training program for the IGS TIET students’ chapter conducted by Geological Survey of India (GSI) on 6th February 2024.The event featured a lecture by Mr. Suhail Ahmed, The Director on the topic “Role of Geological Survey of India in the field of Engineering Geology and contribution to Nation Building”. In this lecture he shared information about work and achievement made by GSI in areas such as Dams, Tunnels, Landslides, Seismic Studies, Geotechnical and Engineering Geology. He also spoke on the contribution made by GSI in nation building. In the next stage of the training program, the students’ visited the geological museum of GSI Jabalpur where Sufia M.V. director highlighted the geological details of minerals, rocks and fossils specimens showcased in the museum. Mr.C.R Burman director, Mr. Benudhar Behera director from GSI, and Dr.Sanjay Verma, Professor and Vice Principal, and faculty members Prof. R.K. Vishwakarma, Prof. Aakash Jain, Prof. Dipesh Lodhi Mr.Dharmendra Ahirwar and Muralidhar Kori were present from Takshshila Institute of Engineering and Technology Jabalpur.The training program was conducted by Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Keshav Khandelwal, Senior Geologist from GSI. About 50 Civil Engineering students attended the training program.
Field Visit at Lalpur Water Treatment Plant:

A field visit for the students of civil department was conducted on 31 may at Lalpur Water Treatment Plant, Gwarighat. The key concept along with practical knowledge was shared by the unit in charge Mr.Arun Dubey and his team. Two water treatment plants have been seen by the students on river Narmada, one isat Lalpur, Gwarighat of 55 MLD capacity and the other of 120 MLD capacities Ramnagara WTP at Tilwara Ghat. Students have got an opportunity to see and understand all the processes taking place from the intake well (sources of raw water) to the drinking water supply. Information about the water testing unit was given to all the students by Unit In charge Mr. Dubey. The students’ doubts have also been cleared. The students have learned a lot through this visit. Prof R K Vishwakarma, Prof. Akash Jain, Prof Satyam Tiwari. Prof. Shivam Tiwari, Prof. Abhishek Patel, Prof. Deepesh Lodhi, Mr Dharmendra and Mr Murli coordinated the visit.
“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign:

On Independence Day 2024 in the presence of IGS Jabalpur chapter’s chairman Er Sanjiv Verma, “Salil” student’s planted trees under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. Dr. Sanjay Verma, Prof Abhishek Patel, Prof. B K Agrawal, Prof. Satyam Tiwari and students Divyani Choudhari, Ayush Singh Maravi, Ashish Kumar Shrivas, Anish, Anshul Sahu, Ankush Patel, Deependra Marskole, Gulshan Shivhare were present and planted trees to save the environment.
57th Engineers Day by IGS-TIET Students Chapter:
A seminar was organized on

57th Engineers Day by IGS – TIET Jabalpur Students’ chapter to commemorate the 164th birth anniversary of the great Engineer Dr. Sir M Visvesvaraya.Special guest of the seminar Er.S.S. Pawar, IGS life member and author of the book “Vigyashilipi Visvesvaraya” said young civil engineers will have to work hard and come forward for nation building. He presented important information on the personality of M.Visvesvaraya and mentioned the great works done by him in nation building. As the keynote speaker, Er Sanjeev Sharma technical zonal head Ultratech Cement Ltd. gave a presentation on the topic “New Building Materials in New Age Constructions” in which he presented the latest information on modern technology and how modern materials are being used in construction. On this occasion, under the guidance of Prof. R K Vishwakarma and Akash Jain students gave technical presentations in which Divani Chaudhary, Rohit Lodhi, Hariom Sharma, Vikas Jaiswal, Rohit Kumar, Hemant Yadav presented technical papers on various topics. At the beginning of the program, the institution’s Principal and IGS Life Member Dr. Sudhir Bhatt and Director Administration Dr. B.K. Sahu welcomed the guests with welcome address. Dr. Sanjay Verma, Vice Principal TIET and Honorary Secretary IGS JC coordinated the program. Institution Chairman Er Vijay Gupta, SecretaryMr. Suresh Parchani, Co-Secretary Er Sharad Gupta encouraged the students chapter’s activities. Karl Terzaghi Day on 141st Birth Anniversary:

A seminar conducted by IGS-TIET Jabalpur Students’ Chapter on the 141st Birth Anniversary of Dr.Karl Von Terzaghi (Father of Soil Mechanics). The Principal Takshshila and IGS life member Dr. Sudhir Bhatt briefed about the contribution of KVT in the field of geotechnical engineering. He expressed KVTs recognition and formulation of the effective stress principle and its influence on settlement analysis, strength, permeability and erosion of soils. Dr. I K Khanna Group Director TIET shared his experiences during his Ph.D. from IIT Delhi on pavement design long years ago. Dr Sanjay Verma, appreciated the TIET Student’s Chapter works at this occasion. Prof Alok Agrawal, Prof Rajkumar Vishwakarma, Prof Satyam Tiwari, Prof Abhishek Patel, Prof Aakash Jain, Prof Shivam Tiwari and a large number of students’ remain present during the Session.

IGS TIET Student Chapter’s students’ tribute to Karl Von Terzaghi (The Father of Soil Mechanics) on his 61st death anniversary on 25th October 2024. Chapter’s students’ Mayank Rao, Vikas Jaiswal, Shiva Yadav, Sumit Chadhar and Ku Muskan Kashyap presented their geotechnical field study work and explained the contribution of Dr.Karl VonTerzaghi Sir in the field of soil mechanics. Dr. Sudhir Bhatt Principal, Dr. Sanjay Verma Vice principal and all the faculties’ and staff were present during the homage occasion.

Seminar and field Visit
A Technical Program with a Geotechnical and Geological field visit conducted on 05th November 2024 by IGS – TIET Students’ chapter in association with Geological Survey of India. After technical lectures a field visit to the surrounding granite locations and balance rock was organized where the geotechnical aspect of granite explained to the students and provided very fruitful information on seismic activities in the area by Mr. Suhail Khan Director GSI and other officials. “Culture of Integrity for Nation’s Prosperity” is planned to be organized at the BroadBand Seismic Observatory Bargi Hills of the Geological Survey of India. In the beginning of the program Dr. Sudhir Bhatt Principal TIET and Dr.Sanjay Verma Professor and HoD Civil welcomed the guests. Prof. Aakash Jain, Prof. Deepesh Singh Lodhi, Prof. Satyam Tiwari, Prof. Abhishek Patel, Prof. Shivam Tiwari Prof Atul Shukla, Prof. Apoorva Shrivastava, Prof. Ajay Kumar and 37 students attended the program.
Kathoda Municipal Solid Waste Plant & Effluent Sewage Treatment Plant Visit
IGS – TIET Students’ chapter successfully organized a one day industrial training on the Subject- Integrated Waste Management and Environmental Engineering on 09th November at Kathonda Municipal Solid Waste Plant & Effluent Sewage Treatment Plant (ETP) Jabalpur. During the visit students’ learnt in detail about the complete mechanism and activities of both Plants including the detailed complete functioning of 276 MW power generation capacity from 600 TPD Municipal Solid Waste.The entire procedures based on Mass Incinerator Technology MIT operated by Jabalpur Municipal Corporation JMC and Essel Infrastructure Pvt Limited. Students were explained in detail by the Plant Manager and Engineers in the running production during the visit. 30 students attended the visit along with Dr. Sanjay Verma Prof. Aakash Jain, R.K Vishwakarma, Deepesh Singh Lodhi.
Dr. Rajeev Chandak, Co-Chairman IGS Jabalpur Chapter and Head Civil Department Jabalpur Engineering College delivered a motivational lecture for the chapter’s students during a one day seminar organized by IGS – TIET students’ chapter on 28th November 2024. At the seminar Mr. Sunil Tiwari Manager Technical Service, ACC Adani Cement Ltd. delivered a keynote lecture on the topic Durability of Concrete Structures and cementing our commitment for Nation Building. Mr.R.N. Paharia institute chairman and Er. Sharad Gupta secretary appreciated IGS -TIET Students’ Chapter activities.
